Rig
Rig sets up a Mac's MIDI and audio from one place, for people with a studio full of gear. Routes you draw in the patchbay persist. A locked sample rate goes back to your setting whenever another app changes it. Rig replaces the MIDI Studio and Audio Devices windows in Audio MIDI Setup. Claude or another AI agent can do the same work over MCP.
Rig is coming soon to the Mac App Store.

What's in it
Devices
Every MIDI device appears with its jacks. Assign external gear to either side of a port, such as a pedal switcher on an interface. Rig also finds stale "#2" device records and removes them in one click.
Patchbay
Route any MIDI source to any destination, with channel remapping, force-to-channel and message filters.
Snapshots
A snapshot saves your routes, default devices, rate locks and aggregate devices. Recalling brings back whatever is missing.
Monitor
The monitor shows every incoming message, labeled by device and, where Rig has a profile, by control.
Audio
Set the default devices, volume, mute and clock source, and build aggregate devices in place. The change log records every rate and device change, whether Rig or another app made it.
Device pages
The EHX Super Switcher, Nektar Pacer and Panorama T4, Korg ARP 2600 M, TASCAM Model 2400 and MOTU MIDI Express XT each get a page of their own. Rig writes the XT's routing matrix, filters and channel maps straight to the unit. Any other device still shows its jacks, routes, active channels and recent messages.
Speakers
Lay out a room as stereo, quad, 5.1, 7.1 or 7.1.4, and click a speaker to hear pink noise on its channel.
Room measurement
With a measurement mic, Rig sweeps each speaker and works out the delay and level trims that align the speakers. Rig also suggests EQ cuts for room modes below 300 Hz. Export writes an Equalizer APO preset and a correction impulse for each speaker.
Pads
The trackpad becomes nine drum pads.
Menu bar
Default output, input and snapshots stay one click away in the menu bar. Closing the window leaves Rig running there.
MCP
Every action in Rig is also a tool in midi-mcp. Claude or another agent can do the same work.
Requirements
- macOS 13 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel.
- For room measurement, a measurement mic on an input of the same device as the speakers, or joined to it in an aggregate device.
Rig is at version 0.9.0, beta 2.
Known limits
- macOS has no system-wide buffer size. Each app sets its own.
- Rate locks and the change log run while Rig is open, in the window or the menu bar.
- Virtual audio devices come from apps such as Loopback. Rig doesn't create them.
- Rig doesn't yet apply room correction to everything the Mac plays.
- The MOTU MIDI Express XT sends nothing back on MOTU's current driver. Rig shows the setup it last wrote to the unit.
